SURGE, 2013

My intense passion for the sea has never left me and is reflected in Surge .

It is a progression of Field in its format; investigating in movement and colour. Placing the work on a mantle piece creates the impression of a horizon.

The line flows from left to right, as if we are trying to read it, taking you down and up.  Surge is what the beholder absorbs and one hopes experience a sublime moment.

As the philosopher, Immanuel Kant had written in Critque of Judgment ‘ The sublimity is marked by grandeur, vastness, incomprehensibility, and the power to cause an intense pleasure in the observer, a pleasure that has transcendent qualities.’
